I own 50% of a house with my mother, can I borrow on my half of the equity? House owned outright, worth approx 400k.

  • The short answer is no. The mortgage company (or whoever you borrow from) would insist on having first charge on the property. If the property is jointly owned then any borrowing would have to be done jointly.
