Will the new budget for houses over £1 million, stop large development growth?

  • Stamp duty is already putting the stop on our family considering moving to a larger property - we're thinking of expanding instead and can put a decent size extension to include a large sun room, and another bedroom for LESS than we would have to pay in stamp duty to move to a bigger house

  • I am not so sure it will have any real serious impact. We are talking about the wealthiest 1% of the Nation and the cost has risen by £10,000 for every 1 million spent a drop in the ocean. I accept the charge is extortionate already but i cant see it damaging the market. Dont forget their are now planty of HMRC aproved stamp duty land tax saving schemes so a loot of peapole at the high end never pay stamp duty anyway. I

  • Further to Iain's valid point, a lot of buyers in this price range will likely be reducing their stamp duty liability through tax planning measures anyway, I suspect a greater proportion than elsewhere in the market, but wherever you are in the market you can check to see how much you could save through effective tax planning via the handy calculator in the link below
